After teaching 1 year at UW as a faculty assistant, I started as a faculty member at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey in 1992. I visited University of Virginia as a Fulbright scholar for 1 year during 2004-2005, where James Rovnyak was my host. Then I moved to Bilkent University also in Ankara in 2005, where I am a full professor since 2014. I was a student of Walter Rudin and I am still in academia. More personally, I have a daughter Oya who is working towards a master’s degree in Molecular Biology in Germany. My wife Serap Oztop is also a mathematician and analyst, but at Istanbul University in Istanbul, Turkey. Every weekend, one of us commutes 5 hours one way.
