I am a Mathematical Statistician in the Biometry Research Group in the Division of Cancer Prevention at the National Cancer Institute.

What do you do? Do you use math in your position?
In addition to some internal grant reviews, I do collaborative research in applied statistics in areas related to cancer screening, multiple testing, model selection and statistical computing. I am most definitely using my doctoral training in probability theory.

Have you received any awards or made any recent accomplishments you’d like to share? This can include promotions, new jobs, and memberships to boards and organizations.
I’m a board member at large in the Washington Statistical Society, the local chapter of the American Statistical Association.

My wife, Minna Ahlgren, and I have two children. Elias will graduate (May ’24) with a Computer Science degree with focus on AI and has started his masters coursework. Sanna is a drama major with minor in Anthropology in the Tisch School of the Performing Arts at New York University. She will graduate next year (May ’25)
