Where do you currently work and what is your title/position?
Retired Naval Officer and Department of Defense Civil Servant
What do you do? Do you use math in your position?
I was a submarine officer for the first half of my naval career. I qualified as a nuclear propulsion plant engineer during that time and definitely used math during my career. I later worked as a program analyst in command, control, and communications (C3). At the end of my naval career I was working to improve C3 interoperability with our allies and with NATO. I continued that work as a DoD civilian working for the Defense Chief Information Officer until I retired in early 2022–a 41-year career defending and serving our nation.
Have you received any awards or made any recent accomplishments you’d like to share? This can include promotions, new jobs, and memberships to boards and organizations.
I received numerous personal awards and unit citations while a Naval Officer. I attained the rank of commander. Upon my final retirement, I received a letter of commendation from the Commander, Joint Forces Command, UK Ministry of Defense, for the work I did supporting our allied forces.
